LFMpire Builders Seminar Weekend.
I am writing today with my head still spinning from the weekend at the LFMpire Builders Seminar at The Holiday Inn, Bristol UK, May 7th-9th 2010. WOW what a weekend it was too with so many great speakers over the 3 days and the tons of notes and photographs I took. On Friday we had information packed talks from Robert Puddy and Donna Fox, these two organised the whole event with the help of their team. We picked up so many tips from these two and it was a real eye opener. There were so many VIP speakers and VIP’s from all over the world sitting in the audience too, John Thornhill and Dave Nicholson, Soren Jordensen and Cindy Battye to name just a few. We were able to interogate the speakers to find answers to questions we would not normally find answers to anywhere else.
Saturday morning began with an opening talk from Omar Martin, and what a lovelly down to earth guy he is. He began by telling us his heart wrenching story of the life changing decision which propelled him into the internet marketing world. He talked about the decisions we all make that alter and shape our lives, and his big decision came after the twin towers disaster. He was at the time working as a fire fighter and then a medic, but he was off duty that dreadful day, but his best friend and work colleague was on duty and he lost his life. Omar quit his job immediately, and got himself a job selling coupons for Pizza Hut door to door, but he hated it. However some good came out of this because he met his wife then as she was actually the person who interviewed him. Omar then stumbled upon internet marketing and spent much time and money trying to learn but without much success. He then signed up for a coaching course with John Thornhill and later went on to study with Mike Filsaime who is now his business partner.
Two things that Omar said during his talk really stuck in my mind, and the first one was that he always is himself as a marketer, he advises never to try to be someone that you are not, just be yourself. The other thing he said was how we need to develop a business mindset. What he meant was that we should do whatever it takes to drive our business forward, just take the action needed, just do it. Most people think about it for too long, and get bogged down with too much information, become overloaded and fail to take any action. He said that we all know too much, and we do not need to know everything and we should just focus on what we do i.e product creation and hire others to do graphics, web design, drive traffic etc. just outsource rather than try to acquire the knowledge to do these things yourself.
We later had a talk by Martin Avis who runs his own newsletter check it out at Kickstart.com. If you get a little spare time this guy has so much to teach about his business and how he only works a maximum of 2 hours per week but still earns a full time income. He wrote a very useful eBook called ‘You can Write Articles’ which I know I am going to find very helpful. It is a ‘how to’ book with plenty of tips and advice to help you to write super articles. I also remember very clearly that Martin said that marketers should never lie about any of their products or what they are offering, if you do you will lose creditibility and trust with your customers. He said always do what you say and say what you do and you will not go far wrong.
The second day, Saturday ended with a talk from Jonny Andrews. He is a larger than life character with a very loud voice, he really did not need a microphone! However I unfortunately had to miss this talk, but I was told that he had huge personality and that he was so different and refreshing in his approach to I.M
The first speaker on Sunday was Simon Leung who came from a Google background and so he was able to enlighten us a little about what Google look for in a website and how to improve our rankings. This is all top secret stuff that he was sworn to secrecy about and although he is not allowed to tell people, there is nothing to say that he can’t just teach it when he teaches. I have pages of notes all about the features of his blogs and websites which help him to stay at the top of Google with everything he does, or almost everything.
Ambar Hamid took the stage next and what a story he had to tell, I had tears in my eyes! His business focus was very different from all of the other speakers since he focuses on B2B projects with many major corporations, and he runs his own business empire from london and he is only in his early twenties! Ambar decided as soon as he left school that he was going to be successful and that failure just was not an option for him at all. He also had the business mindset and would do whatever it took to make his business work for him, and he worked extremely hard to achieve his enormous success.
After lunch we were treated to a really entertaining and down to earth speaker, Sterling Valentine. His approach was so much common sense and with his sense of humour the audience warmed to him quickly. By this stage I am fast running out of notepaper and ink!!
In the photo you will see, from left to right, Ambar Hamid, Omar Martin, Martin Avis and Sterling Valentine. Here Ambar offers advice about what should be on a high converting squeeze page.
Our last day finished with Jani G. and what a nice guy he was, he had a great way of explaining his processes and again he gave tons of tips and advice. But there were many things that all of these very different speakers had in common, but the one I noticed the most was their sheer energy and passion, the room totally buzzed with it for the whole weekend and it seems contagious because I have been buzzing ever since!!
Well if you ever get the opportunity to attend one of these seminars then grab it with both hands as you will get so much from it. The advice you get is so valuable, and not only that, you are able to talk to these guys face to face and ask the questions that YOU want answers to. I gained so much info and advice from attending and I made some new I.M friends too. I’ll bet you can guess who will be first in the queue for tickets to the next seminar!!
So if you get the chance to attend one of these seminars in the future then I strongly recommend that you do, because you will learn so much and meet some potential future JV partners as well.
